The Third
Annual
PASO DIGITAL
FILM FESTIVAL
ANNOUNCES
JUDGMENT OF PASO
A competition between Paso Robles
wines and Napa Valley wines |
 |

On Saturday, November 20, 2010 the Paso Digital Film Festival will
screen the award winning film BOTTLE SHOCK. This film recreated the
historical landmark Paris Wine Tasting of 1976, known as "Judgment
of Paris.” In conjunction with this screening the Festival along
with the movie's producers, Marc and Brenda Lhomer,
are staging a new competition "The Judgment of Paso." This
event is designed to settle another wine dispute between Napa Valley
wines and Paso Robles area wines. As with the original
contest, there will be blind tastings of Chardonnay and
Cabernet Sauvignon during the screening.
"Bottle Shock" stared Alan Rickman,
Chris Pine, Bill Pullman, Rachael Taylor,
Freddy Rodriguez, Dennis Farina and
Eliza Duyshku, and has become a
standard in the wine culture.
The original Judgment of Paris competition was organized in Paris on
May 24, 1976, by Steven Spurrier, a British wine merchant. French
judges did blind tastings of top quality Chardonnay and Cabernet
Sauvignon wines from France and from the Napa Valley in California.
The California wines were ultimately
rated best in each category, a
shock to the entire world wide wine community,
as until then France
had been regarded as being the foremost producer of the world's best
wines.
Our competition will be completed in two stages. The
first will be a qualifying round where the Paso Area wine finalists
will be chosen from those entered. The second stage will be the
final competition between the actual winners in the first stage, two
wines in each category, and the wines from Napa . There
will be a
panel of celebrity judges (soon to be announced) which
will be held live and broadcast via the web as part of the Festival
program.
WE INVITE YOU TO ENTER YOUR
WINE IN THE QUALIFYING
STAGE AT LEVEL FOUR 1216 PARK
STREET PASO ROBLES
We will be taking entries from
Paso Robles Area Wineries
to decide the best wines that
will go up against the Napa
wines at the JUDGMENT OF PASO on
Saturday 20th of Nov.
Entries close on November 14th. On November 16th we will hold the blind
tasting of the wines that have been entered,
to determine the
area wines that will be entered into “THE JUDGMENT OF
PASO” competition Saturday the 20th.
|
 |
The blind tasting will be at Level
Four (1216 Park Street) in
downtown Paso Robles. Starting at 6
p.m. We will be staging the blind tasting with our
group of celebrity judges. The
names of the judges will be announced on the website soon.
Again, the winners of this first phase
will go to the actual JUDGMENT AT PASO tasting.
Central California Press including radio,
newspaper, Internet and television will be invited
to the tasting. In addition we will
be concentrating on inviting the wine press to the
November tasting.

Brenda and Marc Lhormer for a
number of years produced the Sonoma Valley Film Festival, and
are said to have built it into a top of the line event. They
are now venturing to create the Napa Valley Film Festival,
debuting in 2011. Brenda and Marc produced the feature film “Bottle
Shock”—a fictionalized retelling of the events surrounding the
1976 “Judgment of Paris,” when Napa Valley wine beat French
vintages in a blind tasting, and brought Napa Valley and
California wines to the world's attention. Brenda and March
also have several new film projects in development. At the PDFF,
they will stage a re-enactment
of the "Judgment
of Paris", with Napa Valley and Paso Robles wines in
competition.
