The Third Annual Paso Digital Film Festival, Judgment of Paso
a competition between local Paso wines and selected Napa Valley wines
Paso Robles, CA November 19-23, 2010 The Judgment of Paso Event at the third annual Paso Digital Film Festival, held at LeVigne vineyards in conjunction with the screening of the film Bottle Shock on on Saturday, November 20, 2010, ended in a split decision. We would like to congratulate Paso's own Derby Estate Winery, 2005 Laura’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, for winning the Cabernet Sauvignon portion of our contest. The Chardonnay portion of the event was won by the Napa Valley's Chateau Montehelena, 2003 Carneros Chardonnay, in a very tight race. This event was a recreation of the key event of the movie, a blind tasting of Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon wines from France and the Napa Valley. In the Festival’s recreation, we used local Paso area wines and wines from the Napa wineries featured in the film. The Producers of the film, Marc and Brenda Lhormer, were there, and participated as judges as well as introducing their film and responding to a Q&A before the screening. The judges for the Judgment of Paso event were: · Bela Lugosi, Jr, Attorney/Winemaker · Kerry Wallum, Principle in Willie Nelson's Luck Films, Actor and Producer· Donald Gooding, Viticulturalist, Winemaker and wine industry executive· Ken Faux, Certified Sommelier, Court of Master Sommeliers· Matt Brain, Associate Winemaker Edna Valley Vineyard· Randall Shafer, Vice President of Production at Tiger Tale Productions· Brenda Lhormer, Filmmaker/Producer Bottle Shock· Marc Lhormer. The Paso area wines were selected in a blind tasting held at Level Four in Paso on Tuesday November 16, 2010. In that event we had twenty one (21) Paso area wineries entered, and 21 Cabernet Sauvignon and 11 Chardonnays in the two categories. The top three wines in each category were then entered into the final Judgment of Paso event to compete against the Napa Area wines. Our congratulations to the winners! And thanks to all the judges in this very challenging competition.

Bela Lugosi, Jr. was at the Film Festival to present the Bela Lugosi wine, and give a Q & A after the screening of his dad's famous 1931 movie DRACULA...
Although Count Dracula never “drank” wine, Bela Lugosi, the man, had impeccable taste in wines. With the creation of the Bela Lugosi brand wines, the Lugosi family pays tribute to their patriarch, a man of distinction,
while acknowledging the icon that will forever be –Dracula. Wines by the Domingo Hermanos Winery in Argentina. |
Bela Lugosi, the man and the legend, is forever linked to Count Dracula. He was an American film pioneer who created his unique characterization on the Broadway stage in 1927 and brought it to the screen in 1931. |
